2017 Total Solar Eclipse

Thorough the Eyes of NASA, Broadcast Coverage

Role: Script Supervisor

NASA’s Total Solar Eclipse coverage was the agency’s most-watched and most-followed event. Over 40 million viewers watched the NASA TV live broadcast on digital platforms. It’s estimated that the content aired to a potential TV audience of more than 600 million. The four-hour broadcast tracked the moon’s shadow as it moved across the entire United States.

From targeted talking points for the NASA Administrator flying on the G-III Aircraft off the coast of Oregon to tailored questions for the astronauts aboard the International Space Station, I managed content and messaging for the entire broadcast as Script Supervisor. I created and developed the Run of Show that tracked all the content, pre-packed segments, live interviews and 13 Total Solar Eclipse moments.

As the Lead Writer at the NASA Eclipse Central location, I wrote the host transitions, booked Subject Matter Experts and scripted questions to target key talking points.

NASA TV had remote broadcast locations strategically placed along the path of totality in Oregon, Idaho, Nebraska, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky and Tennessee. I coordinated scripts with field producers from NASA centers at each location, advised on Subject Matter Expert bookings and field reporter casting.
